Inside the US Technology Sales Market
US technology sales carries the widest compensation range of any function in this guide. Twenty-four roles are benchmarked here, covering the commercial, mid-market, enterprise and strategic AE tracks and the leadership ladder through RVP and SVP.
Buying committees have grown and cycles have lengthened, and the sellers in demand are those who can hold a technical conversation and build consensus across engineering, finance, security and the executive team. Startup and AI-native AE profiles have separated from traditional enterprise selling, reflecting how differently those products reach a buyer.
The figures reflect base salary, so on-target earnings for quota-carrying roles will sit substantially higher, commonly at close to an even split. The steepest step is the move from individual contributor into leadership, where forecasting discipline replaces personal pipeline. West Coast benchmarks lead the East Coast across the ladder, and fully remote roles are benchmarked below both.
