Senior FastAPI Engineer – AI Gateway
6-Month Contract | Remote (Europe, No sponsorship)
We’re hiring a Senior FastAPI Engineer to join an AI platform team building the AI Gateway - a core middleware service connecting web/mobile apps to internal and external AI providers.
You’ll work on real production AI use cases including:
• AI-generated product videos with long-running streaming responses
• Virtual models for e-commerce imagery
• Rapid integration of newly released AI models within days
This is not a standard backend role. We need someone with deep FastAPI and async expertise who understands how high-performance systems behave under load.
Key Responsibilities
• Build and improve FastAPI services powering AI products
• Manage long-running / streaming API responses
• Integrate multiple AI providers and models
• Identify bottlenecks, blocking calls, and scaling risks
• Help shape future refactoring and architecture decisions
• Work closely with product teams from objectives, not detailed specs
Key Requirements
• Strong production FastAPI experience
• Deep knowledge of async Python, concurrency, multithreading
• Experience avoiding / isolating blocking calls in production
• Strong backend architecture and API design skills
• Comfortable in fast-moving, ambiguous environments
• Able to work autonomously from day one
Nice to Have
• AI / LLM / image or video generation exposure
• Streaming APIs / real-time systems
• Django experience
• Experience reviewing AI-generated code / agentic workflows
