About the Role
We're partnering with an ambitious early-stage startup looking to hire a Founding Senior Full Stack Engineer to join their core team.
This is a unique opportunity to work directly with the founding team, shape the technical vision, and play a pivotal role in building and scaling a product from the ground up. As one of the first engineering hires, you'll have significant influence over architecture, technology decisions, engineering culture, and product direction.
We're looking for someone who thrives in high-ownership environments, enjoys solving complex problems, and is excited by the challenge of building technology that can have real-world impact.
What You'll Be Doing
- Develop and scale backend systems and customer-facing web applications
- Own product features from concept through to deployment and optimisation
- Work closely with founders and cross-functional teams to shape product strategy
- Design and implement scalable, maintainable, and secure software architectures
- Build and maintain APIs and backend services
- Drive engineering best practices, testing, and code quality standards
- Implement and improve CI/CD processes and deployment workflows
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends
- 5+ years of commercial software engineering experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline
- Strong backend development experience with Python and FastAPI
- Experience building modern web applications using:
- JavaScript / TypeScript
- React
- Next.js
- Solid understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) principles
- Experience working with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience operating in startup, scale-up, or similarly high-ownership environments
- Strong communication skills with fluent written and spoken English
- Experience working within regulated industries such as healthcare, fintech, or insurance
- Exposure to mobile development frameworks, particularly Flutter
- Experience with cloud infrastructure and services, ideally Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Previous experience as an early engineering hire or founding engineer
- Takes ownership and accountability for outcomes
- Has a strong builder mentality and enjoys creating solutions from scratch
- Is comfortable operating in fast-moving, evolving environments
- Can think strategically while remaining hands-on technically
- Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills and systems thinking
- Communicates openly, collaborates effectively, and embraces feedback
