System Design Think Tank: Smart Products, Smart Systems

Back to events
30 July 2020 13:00-13:00

Products such as our mobile phones, smart watches, or digital calendars have been created with a smart structured plan or system to work efficiently. Many of today’s technologies aim to proactively support human day-to-day tasks, make smart suggestions, recommendations, and even have conversations with us. With the power of predictive technologies, the advances of these recommendations are getting more enhanced day by day, perhaps enough to even predict our future habits? Current technologies are shifting, and the next generation of products are also changing. Design practices continuously evolve to meet these transformations. Therefore, the term designing with a “Capital D' refers to design beyond interfaces. Designers also look at how consumer behaviours are adapting; we expect a lot more from a product, we want products to understand us and help us in specific ways.

System Design is an emerging practice, an approach that combines design thinking and systems thinking to uncover and map out how systems should be modelled and designed. Stay tuned as we will be releasing the journal soon. For those that missed it view the video footage here. Sign-up to our Meet-up page for future virtual webinars and events.
