  • Run a human-centred discovery phase – holistic, future-focused activity streams synthesised into actionable initiatives, prioritised by senior stakeholders.

To create a valuable Futures Strategy, we propose a four-month engagement, including a senior leadership strategy session that will result in insights and actionable recommendations.

To do this, we will:

  • Find and understand the themes, trends, insights and value levers for the strategy - running these as individual activity streams for all the necessary areas of the business. We will employ techniques such as a STEEP framework and Speculative Design process to think creatively.
  • Build on your own existing expertise, with a set of ideas and recommendations based on the findings. However, we are keen to think ‘outside the bubble’, and would explore ideas in advancing countries along with start-up players who would likely have different ideas from those of an enterprise. These inputs culminate in a high-level roadmap showcasing what is needed to deliver towards the vision.

  • Bring any needed stakeholders and parties together to understand the underlying why, common problems, and ambitions. It is important for all parties to feel ownership through collaboration and co-creation.

The key is to understand there are people throughout the ecosystem - hence a human-centred (not just customer-centric view) is taken. That said, futures are complex and more than just human, which is why a holistic and balanced approach is needed:

What to Expect at the End: Outputs & Outcomes

Experience & Service Design: A list of key pain points and needs per actor that are clustered, themed and prioritised (feeding into the strategy), including any additional journey maps for key experiences for selected customers and employees that build upon existing work

Idea Sourcing: Through interviews and a ‘call for ideas’ initiative, a catalogue of problems and ideas volunteered by employees for internal needs and about their customers (proxy measure, unless direct access to customers is possible).

Data: A synthesis of the findings through high-level data analysis, including identified insights and emerging trends for both internal employees and customer behaviour.

Market: A market analysis of what others in the industry are doing in terms of their technology future visions and strategy. To capture (external) customer expectations from across industries, we will conduct an external focus group of up to 12 participants.

Technology: Define the future state of your business offering, capturing today’s baseline and outlining what tomorrow’s proposition should become. We'll also provide a gap analysis of what you need to get from one to the other.

Business: A series of interviews and a workshop for key leaders in the business, including the IT team, to capture and understand their vision, pain points, and ideas. We'll provide a synthesis of the insights and learnings from these sessions. 

Futures: A research document of the latest industry trends and the global influences shaping your markets.
