Women's Month: Meet Irina Nikiforova

To celebrate women's month, we will be sharing some of our inspirational community members here at SODA.

Where you studied and what got you into your profession?

I studied applied math & computer science at Lomonosov Moscow State University, and started my career as a technical problem solver in one of the largest EU banks. There were only a few women in IT and I needed to prove my expertise every single day. For the next 18 years, I worked in the largest Russian and European banks, solved data problems, designed DWH and architecture solutions, and implemented Data Management, Data Governance and Data Privacy practices to benefit businesses and make the financial life of individual customers easier. Besides, I improved a lot of processes both on the technical and business side and became an expert in Data Management and Data Architecture. I was inspired by a growing number of women in the tech industry, my brilliant colleagues and managers, from whom I learned so much.

What have been your biggest career and personal achievements?

Last year I moved to Berlin and took a career turn from the financial industry to IT consulting. I work at COCUS AG as a Data Management professional and Data Architect and help our clients to become data-driven and implement practices and processes of data management.

What is your current place of work and role?

I'd like to give advice to my younger self: "Learn as much as you can, never hesitate to ask questions, and try new approaches, tools and technologies as much as possible. You can achieve everything if you'll learn and connect with people."

What does an equitable space look like for you? How can this create an impact?

For me an equitable space is full of safety, respect and knowledge, so everyone can benefit from each other differences and be creative. I strongly believe that everyone can learn and grow in a presence of opportunities. They just need a friendly space and support as well as equal availability of knowledge and education, that's the way to a better world. That's why I'm so happy to be part of COCUS, where I can learn and grow with my amazing Data team.
