Programme Manager - Financial Risk and Change

Start Date: ASAP (4-week notice period Max).

Contract Length: 5 Months + Extension

Location: UK REMOTE

HOURS: 35hrs per week

Pay: £680 - £735 per day INSIDE IR35 via Umbrella

I am working with a leading Retail Banking company that is looking for an experienced Programme Manager to join their team on a fully remote basis.

Ideally, we are looking for someone that would be able to start this project as soon as possible, however, we can accommodate a reasonable notice period, of four weeks maximum.

This is a Senior Manager role, reporting to the CIO - Enterprise Systems, Chief Operating Office Division. The Programme Manager will be accountable for the delivery of challenging change programmes and projects across the Risk portfolio, critical to ensuring a high standard of regulatory adherence and high quality Risk model and decision capability. They will also lead projects such as the extension of existing Risk frameworks and data and reporting projects in new and emerging areas such as Climate Change. You can expect to be playing a key role in integration, digital transformation, and strategic change within the Division.

The role

  • Shaping, leading, directing and controlling the delivery of high risk and/or cross functional programmes/projects, including pragmatic application of programme management methodologies, use of clearly defined delivery roadmap and robust financial and risk management.
  • Providing great leadership to a team of change professionals, leading, managing and developing the team to maximise their contribution to the business and their potential, taking appropriate action where team performance deviates from agreed performance standards.
  • Assessing, monitoring and managing delivery risks, issues, dependencies, and assumptions to ensure that all potential and emerging project and operational risks are identified at an early stage and actions agreed accordingly.
  • Applying sound commercial awareness in all stages of business and IT change, including contract appreciation and economic analysis
  • Acting in accordance with regulatory body requirements as appropriate.
    • Identifying and securing appropriate resources to work on the programme/projects, defining clear roles and responsibilities for all team members, including specific responsibility for production of all deliverables.
  • Ensuring delivery of change initiatives using formal methodologies and lifecycles. Includes the adherence to the Change Management and governance.
  • Providing operational and relationship management of Partners and Suppliers.

Ensuring Budget & Process Responsibility

  • Owning and managing portfolio budgets, including the maintenance of financial data, ensuring delivery remains within the agreed funding.
    • Continually evaluating programmes/projects for financial and people risk and regulatory compliance, taking appropriate steps to mitigate issues.
  • Negotiating with 3rd parties, partners and suppliers to influence design, cost and decision making.
  • Being accountable for development standards and delivery strategies

Working Effectively with Colleagues Including Business Stakeholders

  • Leading the management/delivery of the organisation's wider change portfolio through establishing effective relationships with key stakeholders. Responsible for building and maintaining key relationships with affected Business Units.
  • Engaging with a diverse group of senior stakeholders to influence the strategic direction of key programmes/projects to meet business strategies, goals and outcomes.
  • Developing great stakeholder relationships ensuring continuous and clear communications with sponsors, business owners and impacted suppliers.

We need you to have…

  • Significant previous experience in major programme/project management.
  • Proven ability to motivate a large team of management and specialist technical staff across multiple sites.
  • Strong understanding of the Risk function in banking, ideally across Credit Risk, Operational Risk and understanding of data requirements supporting Risk modelling and decisioning.
  • Ability to implement change with speed and efficiency.
  • Clear evidence of the ability to integrate large technical development and business change activities to achieve a common outcome.
  • Great stakeholder management skills and ability to influence at all levels and locations across the organisation.
  • A real ability to manage budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Ability to adjust decisions or actions when ineffective or due to changing circumstances.

We would like you to have...

  • An understanding of Financial Services and Retail Banking.
  • Exposure to multiple development methodologies e.g. Agile, Waterfall.
  • Experience in using Microsoft Enterprise Project Manager or similar project management tools.
  • Experience in using Financial Management tools.
  • Degree in business and /or IT post-graduate professional education.
  • Big bonus point if you have experience in climate change.
